Piosenki w nauce angielskiego


Referat "What songs can be used for" został wygłoszony na Komisji Przedmiotów Humanistycznych w ZSR w Bratoszewicach. Jest prób± usystematyzowania ćwiczeń, które mog± być wykorzystywane w trakcie pracy z tekstem piosenek w języku obcym. Gotowe ćwiczenia już wkrótce.

What can songs be used for?

Songs can be an useful basis and supplementary material for:

  1. Listening development
    1. gap - filling:
      • random words blaked out
      • Specific vocabulary blanked out
      • Specific grammar blanked out
      • The word given to the students before being out
    2. correction:
      • extra words are to be crossed out
      • wrong forms of verbs are to be found
      • wrong word order in the songs lines is to be arranged propely
      • jumbled liones (students put them in the right order)
      • match halves of the sentence (before and during)
      • put pictures in the right order as they occur in the song
      • title matching
      • finding in the tape script the pieces that are being listened to
  2. Reading development
    • Answering comprehension questions
    • Supplementary reading material for the introduction of topic
    • To read and choose the proper summary from the given different version
    • Speaking development
    • Describing the picture a student has drawn to the song
    • Telling the story of the song
    • Paraphrasing the sayings, cliches, proverbs logos from the song
    • To comment on what the song is about
    • To discuss the different versions of the songs summaries
  3. Writing
    • Writing the questions and answers to the song
    • Writing the story or the summary of the song
    • Writing a a dilaogue in pairs using the song titles
    • Writing articles about singers, songs or letters to singers
    • Writing a new version of the song
    • Vocabulary extension
  4. To teach new words
    • Students are given words which occur in the song and are asked to circle any word they don't understand
    • Explain the new words using dictionaries
    • Writing word families, synonyms or antonyms
    • To consolidate and check vocabulary
    • Word games or puzzles
    • Picture compoasition
    • Organizing words into 'sets'
    • Filling in the charts, tables
    • Making sentences with the new words
  5. Pronunciation practice
    • Repetitions of songs lyrics, particular words, with focusing on shorts forms, weak forms, stress, rhty,
  6. Grammar practice
    • To teach new grammatican structures and review
    • Identifying grammatical categories
    • Finding common mistakes such as singular and plural agrement, verb tenses, ommitted and incorrect prepositions
    • Folling the gaps with the proper form of the verb
    • Writing substitution exercises using examples form the song

Another problem is to choose songs ineteresting for students and deciding what can be learnt and taught from them.
